My journey began in a small town outside of Houston, TX. I was reared in a hard-working middle-class family which instilled in me strong work ethics. However, due to my family's struggles with addiction and alcoholism, I endured emotional and mental abuse throughout the majority of my childhood and adolescent years.
Consequently, after graduating high school, I began hanging with, "the wrong crowd" as folks say, and started engaging in petty criminal activity. This period landed me in and out of jail often over next several years. At the age of 23 after numerous petty offenses, a judge imposed his will and in 1991 sentenced me to prison to serve nearly five years for auto theft.
The reality of that situation and its consequences compelled me to take a hard look at my life.
Upon my release from prison in 1995, I sought out and landed my first sales job. It didn't take long for me to realize that I had a natural knack at sales and in 1996 at the age of 28, I earned my 1st leadership position as a sales manager; thus began my career as a leader and visionary.
Ultimately, I was drawn to entrepreneurship, where I created new business opportunities, including launching FinishLine Tax Solutions, LLC with my lifelong friend and Co-CEO. Despite its modest beginnings with no capital and no employees, we managed to grow FinishLine Tax Solutions into becoming one of the largest and most recognized tax litigation firms in the country.
My book, ABSOLUTION: The Dark Path to Light chronicles my rocky journey of abuse, drug addiction, prison and homelessness... to becoming the CEO of one of the fastest growing companies in the country. My hope is that this book will inspire others who feel that the world is against them and all hope is lost, to realize that they too can realize success once they truly commit to their commitment and not fall into a victim stance. We all can choose to either be a victim... or a victor. As I have done, I encourage everyone to chose the latter.
